Pastoral Care

Central to our teaching and learning is our Pastoral Care of each and every student. At Peace Lutheran Primary School, our pastoral care and wellbeing is core to the future development of a healthy and considerate school community. We seek to strengthen our school culture by nurturing our students, staff and families in an environment that values positive and respectful relationships. Peace also employs a Pastoral Care Worker under the National Chaplaincy Funding Program, who provides support to students and the school community.

Social and Emotional Development and Wellbeing

The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration demonstrates a commitment to supporting all students to become confident and creative individuals who are resilient and able to manage their own well-being. At Peace we focus on developing the whole child – mind, body and soul and value each student as an individual.

The Australian Curriculum, specifically the Personal and Social Capability, also addresses the need for schools to provide opportunities for students to develop in this area as they learn to understand themselves and others. It also focuses on how students manage their relationships, lives, work and learning more effectively.

The Personal and Social Capability involves students practicing a range of skills including recognising and regulating emotions, developing empathy for others and understanding relationships, establishing and building positive relationships, making responsible decisions, working effectively in teams, handling challenging situations constructively and developing leadership skills. Therefore, as part of our curriculum we maintain a focus on the social and emotional development and well-being of our students using the following social/emotional programs:

The Resilience Project (TRP)

At Peace we deliver The Resilience Project or TRP, as our wellbeing program. It is designed to help school communities build resilience and positive mental health through a curriculum aligned program from Prep to Year 6.

TRP is taught by our classroom teachers as part of their Health curriculum focusing on the evidence-based principles of:

  • Gratitude,
  • Empathy,
  • Mindfulness (GEM) and
  • Emotional Literacy.

TRP not only equips students with lifelong wellbeing habits, but it also empowers families to support wellbeing at home.

Wellbeing Dog

At Peace Lutheran Primary School, we are delighted to have our Wellbeing Dog, Sundae, as a valued member of our community since the beginning of 2026.

Sundae and our staff have completed specialised training through the Dogs Connect program to ensure her successful integration into school life. This evidence-informed wellbeing initiative is designed to support the social, emotional, and pastoral wellbeing of students and staff.

As part of our whole-school wellbeing approach, Sundae spends time in classrooms across all year levels and participates in small-group pastoral care programs. Her calm and gentle presence helps foster positive relationships, emotional regulation, connection, and a sense of belonging within our school community.

The implementation of the program has been carefully planned and introduced gradually, thoughtfully, and respectfully, with the support and guidance of Dogs Connect. We recognise that each individual will engage with Sundae in different ways and at different levels, and we are committed to ensuring these interactions remain positive and supportive for all members of our community.

Sundae has quickly become a much-loved member of the Peace family, and we look forward to the many ways she will continue to enrich the wellbeing of our students, staff, and families.
